An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior / Principal Highways Design Engineer to join a transport & infrastructure consultancy in Gateshead , working on a diverse range of projects across both the private and public sectors .

The Opportunity

This consultancy operates across highways design, transport planning, drainage and environmental services , offering a genuinely integrated project approach .
You'll be joining a close-knit, collaborative team with a strong pipeline of work, where you'll have the opportunity to remain hands-on technically while also taking on greater responsibility in project delivery and team support .
Projects are wide-ranging and include:

• Residential and mixed-use developments
• Commercial and logistics schemes
• Education and public sector projects
• Urban regeneration initiatives

The Role

As a Senior / Principal Engineer , you'll play a key role in both technical delivery and project coordination.
Responsibilities will include:

• Leading the design of roads, junctions, roundabouts and pavements
• Overseeing and reviewing highway design outputs
• Supporting project delivery from concept through to detailed design
• Working closely with internal teams across transport planning and drainage
• Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers
• Liaising with clients, local authorities and stakeholders
• Supporting the successful delivery of multiple projects

What We're Looking For

• Strong experience in highways design , including:
  • Roads and junctions
  • Roundabouts
  • Pavement design
• Experience using AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D
• Experience working within a consultancy environment
• For senior candidates:
  • Some experience in drainage design is beneficial
• Ability to take ownership of project delivery and support junior staff
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
