Greggs

Retail Technology Product Owner - Newcastle Upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear
  • This is a full-time role, however flexibility in this will be considered
  • We know that having a work-life balance is important, so we offer our colleagues as much flexibility as possible in line with the needs of their role
  • The base location for this role is Newcastle Upon Tyne

Main Responsibilities

  • Own the Order Fulfilment product for Greggs shops, leading the delivery of a new fulfilment solution that improves operational consistency, makes life easier for shop teams, and supports the growth of digital orders and partner integrations
  • Represent the voice of our shop colleagues, regularly spending time in shops to understand workflows, challenges, and opportunities - turning this understanding into simple and effective product improvements
  • Lead the end‑to‑end discovery process, from problem definition and requirements gathering through to testable hypotheses, user stories and acceptance criteria ready for development
  • Prioritise work based on outcomes and evidence, balancing strategic roadmap priorities with live issues, operational needs, support trends and technical constraints
  • Own and manage the product backlog, ensuring it is clear, emergent, estimated and well‑understood by the squad — and maintain a roadmap that reflects both long‑term direction and near‑term delivery
  • Set sprint goals and maintain delivery flow, partnering closely with engineering, UX/UI, analysts, QA, support teams and the Product Manager to move work efficiently from discovery to live
  • Explore and apply the use of AI and automation whereappropriate —both within the products we build and within product‑delivery processes—to improve discovery, insight, decision‑making and delivery efficiency
  • Use data and insight to guide decisions, leveragingoperational metrics (e.g., fulfilment accuracy, fulfilment time, adoption), colleague feedback and business KPIs to inform prioritisation and evaluate the impact of what you ship
  • Define and track measures of success for new and existing features, ensuring we learn quickly, iterate, and focus on what delivers the greatest value for shops, customers, and the business
  • Coordinate effectively with third‑party delivery partners (e.g., Uber Eats, Just Eat) and internal teams (e.g. Retail Operations, Technology & Engineering, Digital) to ensure integrations are reliable and releases land smoothly
  • Manage product risks, dependencies and constraints, escalating early and working with the right teams to unblock issues
  • Drive operational readiness, supporting rollout planning, trial phases, training needs, shop communications and feedback loops to ensure new features are adoptable and understood
  • Support operational resilience, partnering with internal support teams to analyse incident trends, understand root causes, and feed improvements into the roadmap
  • Line manage one Product Analyst, supporting their development, providing direction, and helping them do their best work
  • Champion continuous improvement within the squad — reviewing deliveries, learning from outcomes, and helping create an environment where the team can adapt, collaborate and thrive

Ideal Candidate

You will fit right into this role if you:

  • Bring hands‑on experience as a Product Owner or similar product‑focused role, with a track record of owning a backlog and delivering valuable features in an agile environment.
  • Are truly user‑focused, with a strong interest in understanding how shop colleagues operate and what they need to work more easily, efficiently and accurately.
  • Are outcomes‑driven and commercially aware, able to balance user experience, operational performance and business priorities in a practical, grounded way.
  • Are confident running structured discovery, facilitating workshops, mapping processes, identifying root causes and guiding stakeholders towards clear, actionable requirements.
  • Have a data‑led mindset, comfortable interpreting product and operational data, spotting patterns, and combining insight with qualitative input to make informed decisions.
  • Communicate clearly and build trust easily, influencing without authority, balancing viewpoints, and bringing cross‑functional teams and stakeholders along with your thinking.
  • Comfortable experimenting with AI and emerging technologies — both as part of the products you help build and in how you work — to support analysis, communication and problem‑solving, while applying sound judgement and strong product thinking.
  • Thrive in a fast‑paced retail environment, where priorities can shift quickly and real‑world operational needs matter just as much as long‑term product strategy.
  • Work well with engineering and technical teams, understanding integrations, constraintsand the fundamentals of delivering robust, scalable systems - without needing to be an engineer yourself.
