The posts offer a fantastic opportunity to gain experience in the whole range of examinations we undertake as a tertiary referralTrust. The post holders will work alongside the teams in Interventional Radiology, CT and General Radiology. The Radiology department offers a broad range of modalities and full training will be provided to the successful candidate.

The out of hours emergency CT and Interventional Radiology services are provided via an on call rota and the successful candidate will be expected to participate in this on call service.

Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Trust benefits from pioneering CT and Interventional Radiology departments at both main hospital sites of the Freeman Hospital and Royal Victoria Infirmary. We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated radiographer who has an interest in these specialist modalities to join our hard-working team within the Radiology department.

The role involves working within the CT, Interventional Radiology and general radiography modalities, providing high quality imaging and patient centred care for a range of complex imaging examinations. Delivering imaging for our patients can be challenging but rewarding.

Good organisational, interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team, or independently is required.

As well as providing an exceptional diagnostic imaging service, Newcastle Hospitals has an outstanding reputation for its Interventional Radiology expertise, in both x-ray and CT guided procedures, providing life-saving diagnostic and therapeutic treatments which are at the forefront of the latest techniques, for patients from all over the North East and North Cumbria,.

Imaging and treatments are provided to a number of ever evolving specialist services including cardio-thoracic, vascular, oncology, hepatobiliary, urology, and gastroenterology.

Within our portfolio of equipment, we have several high specification systems across both sites including a Siemens Pheno at the Freeman and an Artis Q at the Royal Victoria Infirmary for the interventional service. From a CT scanning perspective, we have a Siemens Force CT scanner at the Royal Victoria Infirmary and a groundbreaking Siemens Naeotom Alpha photon counting CT scanner at Freeman.

The posts will be based at the Freeman Hospital but there will be rotation to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in order to complete training and subsequently support interventional procedures on that site. The interventional team provide out of hours on-call cover at both hospital sites when required. Rotation may also be needed during the day in times of staff shortages on that site.

Whilst the post is based at the Freeman Hospital, rotation to the Royal Victoria Infirmary may be necessary in times of staff shortages. There is also a requirement to support the out of hours interventional on-call service at the Royal Victoria Infirmary.

You must be HCPC registered and hold a BSc (Hons) or equivalent in Diagnostic Radiography.

The role requires working as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering high quality imaging using a patient centred approach.

Opportunities are available for personal and professional development, and the post holder may be encouraged to take on additional responsibilities such as, Radiation Protection Supervisor, manual handling facilitator, Health and Safety Representative, Society of Radiographers Representative or CPR trainer.

Job Purpose
• To be part of a team delivering a high quality efficient and effective radiographic service, to make an informed decision on the diagnostic images required and demonstrate a professional, caring and responsible approach to patients.
• There is a commitment to the out of hour’s “on call” service in evenings and at weekends for both the CT and Interventional Radiology services. Whilst the post is primarily based at the Freeman Hospital, there is a commitment to work within Radiology departments Trust wide when required.

Please note it is a requirement of The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust that all successful candidates who require a DBS for the post they have been offered pay for their DBS certificate. The method of payment is a salary deduction from your first month’s pay.
