Salary: £47,389 to £50,253 per annum

Newcastle University is a great place to work, with excellent benefits . We have a generous holiday package; plus the opportunity to buy more, great pension schemes and a number of health and wellbeing initiatives to support you.

Closing Date: 20 April 2026

The Role

The main purpose of this role is to conduct applied and/or methodological research relevant to medical research and to be involved in teaching. You will be a member of the Biostatistics Research Group (BRG) and will seek opportunities to expand and develop the group through a range of mechanisms.

You will collaborate on new and existing medical research projects led by teams within and beyond the Faculty, being fully involved in the design, funding, conduct and analysis of the work. Generally, this will involve supervision and line- management of colleagues.

The BRG provides statistical expertise to a large portfolio of ongoing clinical trials and observational studies, working closely with the Newcastle Clinical trials Unit and the NIHR Research Support Service. The BRG has significant strengths in both applied and methodological biostatistics research, especially in clinical trials methodology. We would especially welcome applications from candidates who complement our group’s strengths.

At Lecturer level, you would be expected to play an active role in the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate education. You would also be expected to submit and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects and supervise PhD students.

Newcastle University accords parity of esteem to teaching and research; aims to deliver teaching and facilitate learning of the highest quality; and invests in excellent staff. A popular course in academic practice is available for staff with responsibilities in teaching and research supervision and new appointees are required to gain the first module.

The post is full time, permanent.
