Senior Public Health Practitioner (2 posts)

Newcastle City Council are delighted to be seeking a Senior Public Health Practitioner to focus on primary prevention and social inequalities in our ambitious and passionate Public Health Directorate.

We are looking for a dynamic candidate who is focused on using their public health expertise and experience to make a meaningful improvement to the health and wellbeing of Newcastle residents.

We want all residents of Newcastle to have the foundations of a happy and healthy life by designing, influencing and delivering approaches that prevent loneliness and social isolation, tackle food insecurity and address persistent health inequalities associated with poverty and income inequality.

The roles available involve leading on two key public health agendas:
- Public Mental Health and Community Wellbeing
- Healthy Weight and Active Lives (1-year fixed term maternity cover)

As a member of our directorate Senior Leadership Team, and with management of a small team, both roles involve systems leadership of public health priorities through partnership working, strategy development, policy influence, commissioning services and evaluating impact with a broad range of professionals, academics and residents.

Working closely with the Director of Public Health and Directorate Leadership Team, you will work alongside our team of Senior Practitioners to deliver political and corporate priorities to achieve our Marmot City ambitions, embedding health equity throughout policies and practice and building capacity for public health action.

Senior Practitioners are expected to have significant experience of leadership and collaboration with a broad range of partners, strategic delivery across the domains of public health, effective management of teams and commissioning services. Applications are sought from individuals with a postgraduate qualification in a Public Health or related field, and a proven track record of specialist public health practice.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment with committed colleagues. The role will be challenging and varied, and you will need to be flexible, able to work autonomously, and prioritise workload to meet conflicting deadlines.
