Project Manager
Our client is seeking a Newcastle Based and highly experienced Program Manager to deliver management-approved projects from initiation through to implementation and handover. This is a defence safety-critical role that's responsible for converting approved engineering initiatives into operational capability through structured planning, governance, and control. Candidates will be experienced in an ASDEFCON delivery environment.
You will have experience in engineering and have been in a position to lead a multi-functional team, manage stakeholders, and ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget, while maintaining strong oversight of risks, changes, and performance.
Responsibilities
Be the Program Lead
Plan, coordinate, and deliver projects in line with scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements
Develop and maintain integrated project plans, schedules, and reporting
Lead cross-functional teams through delivery, implementation, and handover
Manage risks, dependencies, and change, escalating where required
Maintain strong stakeholder engagement across internal and external partners
Oversee project budgets, forecasts, and cost control
Ensure accurate documentation and compliance with governance requirements
Coordinate suppliers, contractors, and project-related assets
Lead project close-out, including lessons learned and transition activities
Project Management qualifications (e.g. PRINCE2, PMP or similar)
A degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical)
Proven experience delivering projects end-to-end
Strong planning, coordination, and organisational skills
Experience managing stakeholders and cross-functional teams
Solid understanding of project governance, risk, and change management
Ability to manage budgets and track project performance
Traceable history in an ASDEFCON delivery environment
Relevant tertiary qualification (or equivalent experience)
This is a new role and requires an experience, knowledge and understanding of end-to-end project management. Candidates will have pain in a delivery environment, and have delivered a capability to the Commonwealth and can't forecast friction points and pitfalls. This is a leadership role and needs someone with an affable personality to work with a very busy team to help deliver planned capabilities to the customer (Commonwealth).
