Commercial Policy and Delivery Manager

Newcastle upon Tyne
We’re seeking a pro-active individual who can work at pace to support Commercial Income colleagues to get contracts and projects over the line. Every day’s a bit different in this role, which is part of what makes it great. You’ll be right at the centre of our commercial activity — helping shape contracts and supporting projects initiated by the Commercial Income Manager you’ll work alongside.

Typical Day
  • Give a hand to the procurement and contracting teams when needed — helping shape contract terms, conditions and KPIs so they're clear, practical and easy to manage throughout the life of the contract.
  • Put together licences for new commercial opportunities, making sure the Nexus, Metro and Ferry brands are used consistently and professionally.
  • Draft tenancy agreements and supporting documents that help us create fair, commercially smart rental arrangements that support our goal of becoming more sustainable and building the “stations of the future.”
  • Create straightforward process documents, templates and decision-making guides that make our commercial work easier and more consistent.
  • Keep an eye on key commercial performance data — tracking, reporting and using it to help build business cases and assess return on investment.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with tenants, suppliers, contractors and partners so we can support long-term commercial success.
  • Work closely with Commercial Income colleagues to plan, deliver and monitor a range of income-generating projects.
  • Develop clear project scopes, milestones, risks and delivery plans for all kinds of commercial initiatives — from new products and partnerships to commercial campaigns and trading activity.
  • Bring people together by coordinating everyone involved — inside and outside the organisation — to make sure commercial projects land on time and follow the right governance.
  • Keep track of project progress, manage risks and dependencies, and raise issues early so we don’t lose momentum.
  • Review how projects have performed so we can learn from them and improve future commercial planning.
  • Help develop the documents, agreements and terms we need to support commercial fares, ticketing and partner offers.
  • Provide specialist support to the wider business to help achieve the objectives of the Commercial Directorate in growing income
About You
  • You’re someone who enjoys getting into the detail, solving problems, and bringing clarity to complicated things. You’re comfortable drafting documents, juggling different priorities and talking to people from all sorts of backgrounds.
  • You thrive in fast-paced, ever-changing environments and still hit deadlines.
  • You’ll have knowledge or experience in one of these areas: contracting, legal, property or commercial work. And if you’ve worked on things like drafting terms and conditions, licences, tenancy agreements, property law or commercial projects — even better.
  • You’ll have a high level of influencing and negotiating skills, particularly with external stakeholders and contractors
  • You’re committed to personal development and will have a willingness to learn and develop in the varied aspects of the role
  • You’ll bring an ability to balance compliance and risk with innovation and opportunity, providing constructive challenge where required
  • You’ll understand business improvement techniques for business change, process improvement, agility and innovation
  • You’ve got the skills to influence and lead colleagues, even if you don’t line manage them.
  • To support you in all of this, you’ll have a degree or an equivalent level of experience in a business, law, property or commercial subject.
Who we are looking for

You must lead and inspire your team to embody our company values in every decision and interaction, fostering a culture of integrity, collaboration, and customer service excellence.

As a manager within Nexus, you will foster inclusion, respect and belonging whilst driving performance and continuous improvement.

Our Team

You will join a small but ambitious team of passionate and creative professionals who are firmly on achieving the commercial ambitions of Nexus. Some of our current income streams include an extensive advertising portfolio, retail tenancies, filming opportunities and parcel lockers. We’re adding to this with the exploitation of our intellectual property (think Metro merch!) and station sponsorship opportunities.

About Us

We care for our communities, deliver with trust and accountability, and adapt with innovation. Every journey is designed to be sustainable, inclusive, and customer-focused because when we move forward together, we create a cleaner environment, a stronger economy, and a better future for all.

What we offer
  • This is a Monday to Friday job
  • You’ll work a 36-hour week
  • You’ll be part of a generous pension scheme (Local Government Pension Scheme)
  • 28 days annual leave per year plus bank holidays and time off for volunteering too
  • Enjoy travelling for free in Tyne and Wear with our enhanced travel benefits for you and your family
  • Free or discounted travel with Grand Central, LNER, Lumo, Northern Rail and TransPennine Express
  • You will have the opportunity to contribute to a health cash plan that will contribute (and dependants if you have them) towards dental costs, optical, and lots more
  • Access to our reward app with over 1000 plus high street discounts on groceries, holidays and days out.
  • We like to grow our own colleagues (not literally of course!), so when you’re ready for the next step in your career, we can help develop you
