Trustee: Treasurer
Position: Treasurer (from June 2026)
Term: Three year term, renewable twice with the agreement of the Board.
Time Commitment: Approx 12 days per year (4 Board meetings plus ad hoc
engagement)
The Treasurer will:
• Act in the best interests of Stanley Arts, operating within the law and according to the
governing documents of the organisation, as well as abiding by its policies and procedures.
• Support the objects and mission of Stanley Arts.
• Be an active leader of and spokesperson for the Board, as well as a champion and
representative of the organisation with stakeholders, a manager and mentor for senior
management, and a liaison and support for colleagues within the organisation.
• Spearhead external partnerships efforts and support the community-led nature of Stanley
Arts
The Treasurer’s key responsibilities are to:
• To oversee and present budgets, accounts and financial statements
• To liaise with designated staff about financial matters
• To ensure that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place
• To ensure compliance with relevant legislation e.g. Companies and Charity legislation
• To ensure any recommendations of the auditors are implemented
• To ensure accounts meet the conditions of contractual agreements with external agencies such as funders and statutory bodies
• To lead the Finance and Risk Board Sub-group
• Sign the Charity’s bank mandate and approve payments beyond the financial limits of the CEO.
• To present financial reports to the Board
• To advise on the organization’s reserves policy and investment policy
• To advise on the financial implications of the Charity’s strategic and operational plans
• To advise on the fundraising strategy of the Charity
• To ensure that there is no conflict between any investment held and the aims of the Charity.
We are looking for someone who brings:
Strong financial expertise, with experience in financial management, accounting, audit or charity finance Confidence in leading Board‑level scrutiny of budgets, forecasts, cashflow, risk and long‑term sustainability
The ability to translate financial information clearly, supporting trustees to make informed, responsible decisions
A collaborative, people‑centred approach, working closely with the Chair, CEO and trustees to ensure robust financial governance
Experience of, or interest in, capital development projects, including understanding the financial oversight required for multi‑year investment programmes
A genuine commitment to the development of Stanley Arts and its role in the local community and creative industry
The ability to offer insight, ask the right questions and support sound, well‑balanced financial decision‑making
